What is menopause? It is when a woman’s menstrual cycle comes to an end, due to the lowering of hormones (estrogen, progesterone, testosterone). The period cycle will start to fluctuate within a couple of months or years, it may even stop suddenly, marking it the end of the reproductive years.

3 STAGES OF MENOPAUSE

Perimenopause (Before)

During this stage, your menstrual cycle will start to fluctuate and hormone levels start to irregulate. Generally, women in their late 40s start experiencing perimenopause.

Menopause (During)

At this stage, you have probably missed 12 months (1 year) of menstruation. It takes approximately 1 to 3 years for women to transition from perimenopause to menopause, however it varies for each woman. The symptoms are very similar to perimenopause.

Post-Menopause (After)

Post-menopause is the stage of life where you have not had a period for 12 months or longer. When this stage occurs, it means that for the rest of your life, you will be postmenopausal.

Common symptoms during all 3 stages of menopause

Some women stop experiencing symptoms of menopause once they are postmenopausal. However some continue to experience common symptoms such as:

  • Hot flashes
  • Mood swings
  • Vaginal dryness
  • Urine leakage – Incontinence
  • Insomnia
  • Lowered sex drive
  • Fatigue

MANAGING MENOPAUSE

Going through menopause is a natural part of being a woman but there are ways to manage menopause symptoms. The postmenopausal years can be strong and graceful where one is kept on top of your health and wellness. Here are some ways to maintain your well being during this phase of life:

  • Eat healthy foods. Incorporate foods that give you a balanced diet. Focus on eating whole foods and avoid excess salts and sugars or processed food. Extra calcium and Vitamin D is needed after menopause, so be sure to include them in your diet.
  • Exercise regularly. Make sure you incorporate aerobic exercise, core muscle and pelvic floor strengthening.
  • Avoid smoking and limit your alcohol consumption.
  • Seek treatments for pelvic floor strengthening and vaginal dryness & laxity

Our treatments at Orchard Clinic focus on non-invasive methods to help manage menopause symptoms.

HIFEM EMSELLA

Due to menopause, sometimes women may experience some urinary leakage, also known as incontinence,  due to weak pelvic floor muscles. On some occasions, having a weak pelvic floor might cause pelvic prolapse. But with the help of Orchard Clinic’s use of HIFEM Emsella technology, it will help strengthen and improve the pelvic floor muscles. The technology is non invasive and FDA approved.
